A communications audit is a systematic review of your entire communications infrastructure: websites, social media, publications, how you speak to communities, planners and commercial partners.
I examine messaging, branding, technical performance and consistency. Then I give you a clear picture of what’s working, what’s contradictory, what’s missing and show you how to fix it.

What this includes
- Website audits — assessing structure, messaging, SEO performance and user experience
- Social media analysis — reviewing content quality, engagement, reach and strategic alignment
- Publication reviews — evaluating tone, design, distribution and impact
- Press coverage analysis — tracking media presence, sentiment and messaging consistency
- Stakeholder engagement assessment — examining how effectively you’re reaching and engaging key audiences
- SEO and discoverability — identifying technical and content improvements for search performance (including AI)
- Messaging and tone of voice reviews — ensuring consistency and clarity across channels
Communications audits: why they matter
Most organisations don’t think about communications as a system. They might have social media that acts a notice board, a website that’s never updated, shiny new branding that’s not used anywhere, or semi-regular coverage in the trade press that’s siloed from everything else. But nobody’s stepped back to ask what it actually adds up to.
An audit does that stepping back. Every one turns up quick wins, and every client records a notable improvement just on the back of simple recommendations. But it also reveals patterns. For some clients, that’s enough to fix and move on. For others, it exposes something bigger: a positioning problem, an unclear sense of who they are, or an opportunity to try something new. That’s when the conversation shifts to strategy, but an audit remains the essential first step.
I analyse existing materials, interview stakeholders, review analytics and benchmarks, then present findings in a clear, usable report. Where relevant, I follow up with workshops to help teams implement recommendations.
